How To Be Prepared For Spring Senior Pictures | Everything You Need To Know

Between the flowers, tall grass, warmer weather, and the excitement that comes with graduation being right around the corner, spring senior pictures are always a great idea.

Spring is the most popular season for senior portraits, followed super closely by fall. As the sun gets “stronger” the closer the calendar gets to summer, the morning offers fresh, crisp light. That paired with the greener-than-ever grasses makes for really beautiful visuals. Alongside how great morning time is for spring senior photos, a sunset is always a classic option, too, which usually takes place closer to 7PM or so (which is much later than fall and winter sunset sessions).

When To Take Spring Senior Pictures

MARCH

Taking your photos in this month means you're the most "ahead of the game" — you'll have plenty of time to order important senior items like announcements and thank you cards (which I can take care of for you, too!)

APRIL

This is prime-time flower season which makes it one of my most popular months of the year! Another great thing about April is it also gives you enough cushion to use your senior photos for grad party decor and posts on Senior Sunday.

MAY

The best thing about May is, for those incorporating college choice into their sessions, you'll most likely know where you're going by this month (whereas in April/March, college choice can still be up in the air as you re-visit schools, wait for appeals/waitlist options, or weigh out your acceptance options). Including your future school through apparel, flags, or colors is a great way to spice up your senior photo outfit options.

What To Wear For Spring Senior Pictures

When it comes to what to wear for senior pictures, let your guiding light be what I call the 3 T’s: include clothes that are trendy, timeless, and true to you.

Applying that to springtime senior sessions can mean classic denim and a white tee or dresses that flow and move. Also a perfect time to feature pastels or more deep shades depending on your skin tone, eye color, and hair color (clients get a session prep guide that goes into detail about this).

Don’t forget about accessories! Hats, jewelry, and fun props like your car or pup are never a bad idea.

Where To Take Spring Senior Pictures

With such great weather in SoCal during the spring months, the options are endless! From fields full of flowers and grassy hills to the pier in Newport and rocky beaches in Laguna, you have a lot of outdoor senior photo locations to choose from.

Don’t forget about a more edgy option with heading downtown for a location with architecture and art to utilize during your session. An indoor studio allows for a lot of creativity, too!

How To Book Spring Senior Pictures

In a perfect world, anyone interested in a spring senior session would be on the waitlist during or before their junior year to make sure they can get a prime time spot! By joining Jen's Juniors VIP Waitlist, you'll be notified right at the end of your junior year when it's time for you to get in touch with me to book your session. Even if you want to wait until the spring of your senior year to do your senior photoshoot, you'll want to connect with me the summer before senior year begins, or the fall at the latest!
