6 Senior Photo Outfits Ideas You Don’t Want to Miss in 2025

As a senior photographer, I see lots of different kinds of senior photo outfits year after year. Everyone is different with their own sense of style, but there are definitely certain options that look better on camera and help seniors feel more confident in front of it. Let’s dive in to 6 senior photo outfit ideas to help you pick what to wear for your photoshoot!

1. Tulle fabric

If you want dreamy, cinematic photos, wear fabric that moves! It doesn’t have to be tulle, but this is a fun, voluminous, & readily available option. If not tulle, aim for ruffles in general!

2. Sleeves, sleeves, sleeves

Sleeves are a great way to add detail through texture, beading, and volume. Not to mention, they’re ideal in cooler weather.

3. Add a braid or unique hairstyle

Wearing your hair down is common, but adding in a braid elevates the look and adds a point of interest.

You can also bring accessories to switch up your look, like headbands, hats, or bows!

4. Your “uniform”

You don't have to wear your sports or school uniform from head to toe (though you most certainly can)! There are more casual ways to incorporate your passions, including holding props like shoes, athletic equipment like bats, balls, gloves or golf clubs, props, or musical instruments.

5. Drop waists + corsets

Low rise is back, baby! Whether it’s jeans, dresses, or tops, this trend has come back around and seniors are taking advantage when it comes to their senior photo outfits.

6. Senior jeans!!?!

I had never seen this before my session with Pearl (who traveled from Las Vegas to take photos in Laguna Beach), but I love this idea and the nod to her graduating class!

Extra tip —

I’m all for a fun, bold pattern, but in my opinion, it's best to aim for a majority of your outfits being solid. If you love a pattern, and it happens to have a lot of contrast in the colors, make sure it's a big bold pattern. In general, low-contrast patterns (with colors that are in the same 'family') are your best bet. Above all else, I highly recommend avoiding stripes and checkers in most cases, unless it's gingham.

A common question I get from seniors preparing for their session is what is the right spread or variety when it comes to their senior photo outfits. People want to make sure they don’t miss anything, and I get it! That’s why I came up with my 3 T’s rule — at the very least, take off all the pressure and just choose one thing that's trendy, one thing that's timeless (like a black or white dress for girls, and a white button down for guys), and something that's true-to-you.
