Epic Guy Senior Photos in Orange County | Ben G.

As an alumna, I always love getting to take senior photos for students of MVHS (go Diablos!) which meant Ben’s senior photo session felt particularly special. Guys' senior photo sessions aren’t always as common as girls’, and here at JRP, we are committed to changing that! Luckily Ben showed up ready to celebrate his achievements as he reaches the end of his high school career.

The story of how this Orange County senior photo session came to be isn’t what you would expect. Ben’s older sister, Olivia, graduated a couple of years earlier and unfortunately reached out just a bit too late to have her senior photos done. Knowing this, Ben’s mom joined the waitlist and jumped into the application process as soon as doors opened at the end of Ben’s junior year. Because of this, Ben was able to get on my books for his senior photos with ease! Ben’s mom joked that Olivia was “so jealous he was getting to do his senior session with Jen that day!" (Not to worry — we’re hoping to arrange a session for her college graduation when the time comes.)

Ben’s family learned through Olivia’s experience that reaching out in the last months of senior year (i.e. March-May) is often too late. If you’re not a senior yet but already sure that I’m the senior photographer you want, I’d highly recommend joining this waitlist. Even if you or your student is only a freshman, sophomore, or junior — the waitlist is the best place to drop your contact information so you’ll be notified when it’s your turn to apply for a senior session. Simply join the list, and when doors open for you or your student’s graduating class, you’ll receive an email with the application form. From there, you’ll receive a link to set up a complimentary consultation appointment. And if you are currently a senior? Apply as soon as possible!

A lot of teenage boys aren’t used to getting their photos taken, and that’s why trusting the senior photographer you choose is so important. In Ben’s case, even though he seemed to experience the typical uncertainty that comes with stepping in front of a professional camera, he was extremely trusting in my vision. He tried every pose I threw at him, which led to his GQ-esque results! Magic happens when you have confidence in your photographer!

We started this guy senior photos session downtown. My favorite things about taking photos downtown is the wide variety of walls and backdrops to work with. The brick walls, architecture, and textures make this Orange County photo location a great choice for a more formal outfit, like Ben’s suit and white sneaker combination. Afterward, we headed to the beach for a more relaxed vibe.

Ben showed off his letterman jacket, barefoot in the sand, to commemorate his scholar athlete status and swimming accomplishments. Honoring the sport they've played since they were a kid, where they're headed next after high school, or even just having an excuse to wear their suit and feel like a model for the day are all big reasons why senior portraits are just as important for the guys as they are for the girls. Don’t worry, JRP works to read the client’s comfort levels on location, and no experience is required as posing guidance is included. So there is no reason not to book your own guys senior photos session!
