4 Benefits of Cloudy Day Photography
Cloudy weather is NOT the enemy!
Oftentimes there is a stigma (almost a fear, even) of a photo shoot sans sunshine. Whether you are a photographer or a client, there shouldn't be a stigma around "non-sunny" days. Don’t look at a cloudy day photoshoot as a loss, because it is absolutely a gain.
In fact, here are 4 significant BENEFITS of shooting in "gloomy" lighting (but let's call it "cozy" lighting, shall we?):
Softer lighting: Overcast conditions act as a natural diffusing filter. This means you will have soft, even lighting across the subjects face and body. No one has to worry about having sun in their eyes!
Fewer crowds: Most likely, gloomy, colder days are going to draw fewer crowds to the beaches or popular shoot spots, which makes for a more relaxed experience overall. This is great for the client during the shoot, and also great for the photographer during the editing process.
Mood, mood, mood!: There is something powerful about overcast skies in a photo shoot. Embrace it, and trust your photographer to create something stunning for you to cherish.
Interesting skies: The sun may peek out and create insanely gorgeous sky formations (which are actually more interesting than a blank blue sky).
I have had many sessions full of cloudy day photography, and the photos still turned out great. There is nothing to fear except wishing you had booked yourself a photo shoot sooner!
The photos below were ALL shot in gloomy, cloudy weather. Go on… check them out!
Do you see what I mean? Soft light, moody, and gorgeous - even without the sun.
