Dance Team Captain Senior Photos | Props For Senior Pictures | Hope

dance team captain senior pictures

It's not everyday that we work with seniors from out-of-state, but traveling for signature senior photos at the beach is more common than you might think! Hope's senior photo session showcased not only this unique travel element, but so many other important things, too, using props for senior pictures to help tell her story. Hope wanted beach senior photos, she wanted flowers incorporated in some way, and as a dance team captain, we had to get some senior athlete photos as well. In this post, let's break down what made her session (and her final results) so special.

We had Hope’s consultation and planning session in June, and scheduled her session for October. Even though she didn't do her session in the spring, when flowers are typically more common, Hope was still able to bring a colorful, editorial flare to her session by applying one of our favorite session pro tips: bringing your own flower bouquet!

October is, in my opinion, one of about 3 months that are extremely underrated for beach photos. The weather is still warm (thanks to our late onset summer weather) and the crowds are even more manageable than the busy summer months. Keep this in mind when you are planning your own senior photo session!

Hope and her mom drove out from Las Vegas and stayed with a friend in Newport Beach for the evening to make her dream senior photos a reality. Hope’s mom had her own secret weapon when it came to props for senior pictures - a pair of PLIERS. The House of CB red dress that Hope wore had a tricky zipper, which they learned about when she tried on all of her outfits prior to the session (this is included on all my seniors' pre-session checklist!). Fortunately, the pliers did the trick!

Hope added on hair & makeup to her session, which brought her gallery to a whole other level! Not to mention, doing so allowed her to relax during the getting ready time, rather than stressing about having a 'bad mascara day' — this is one of the many reasons we recommend leaving hair and makeup to our vetted pros for your big day.

As a retired cheerleader and cheerleading coach myself, I'm a sucker for a sparkly cheer uniform and pom poms! They photograph so well, and are such fun props for senior pictures. Even if it's not cheer, song, or dance team...you can still honor your commitment to the sport you've spent so many years of your life playing by wearing your uniform or bringing a prop/piece of equipment with you (basketball, baseball bat, swim goggles...the possibilities are endless!) Check out my tiktok playlist for more sports incorporation ideas.
