5 Guy Senior Photo Outfit Tips | Senior Pictures for Guys

When it comes to guy senior photos, deciding what to wear can feel like a challenge. But the good news is, it’s more simple than you might think! Years ago, when a loving mom of a high school senior male client I was set to work with reached out to me for wardrobe help, I took some time to dive back into previous guy senior photo galleries I had done throughout the years. In doing so, I realized there were 5 major patterns in the hundreds of guy senior photos I revisited from previous years . Even with these patterns, I tell every client of mine my 3 T’s rule: bring something trendy, something timeless, and something true to YOU for your senior photo outfits. To help you decide what to bring, let’s dive into these 5 major guy senior photo outfits patterns.

Tip 1: Classic Tee + Sneaker Combination

This one reminds us of Danny Zuko meets Timothée Chalamet. Find something comfy, cotton-blend, PLAIN white, cream, or black. Short sleeve or long sleeve works! Add in a timeless pair of jeans + clean sneaks for a look seniors feel confident AND comfortable in⁣.

Sneakers are a great way to bring a little more to this classic outfit. Usually what I see my senior guys pairing a tee with is something cool like Air Force 1s, Converse, Vans, and even more vintage style sneakers as well.

Tip 2: Short Sleeve Button Down

Not so casual, not so formal — this piece is a perfect transition into a more formal look & gives the senior a chance to play with patterns⁣. You can even leave it unbuttoned and wear a long sleeved shirt underneath for an even more casual, cool, effortless look.

Tip 3: Formal Suit

James Bond?! Sorry, but if I ever have a son, this one is non-negotiable. Break out the black suit, baby! Note: For a more casual take, skip the dress shoes and opt for clean sneakers⁣. You can even skip the tie, too. It’s totally up to you what level you want to take the suit to!

Tip 4: Bold Patterns & Fashion Play

I love, love, LOVE when a senior arrives to their session with out-of-the-box, risky outfits. I call this “fashion play” and attribute it to the rise in thrifting and the higher exposure high school students have to fashion online. Guys can and should feel welcome to express themselves through fashion, too! ⁣

Tip 5: Paying “Homage”

Senior photos are a great time to pay homage to the important things in your life. Whether honoring their sports/letters, passions (like cars or music), graduation, or future plans — take a moment to bring a prop or outfit with meaning.

Out of all of the amazing guy senior photo outfits I see, I’d have to say I’m loving the baggy denim and cotton tops at the moment. Pair that with a pair of clean sneakers and you have an outfit that's not only extremely comfortable, but feels effortless and cool. Sneakers are definitely a way for a lot of guys to express themselves (my husband is an absolute sneaker fanatic), so I've come to respect that shoes are not just something you put on your feet for function, they're an opportunity to pull an entire outfit together and put your own unique spin on the look.

When you book your senior session with me, you’ll get a guide that will walk you through everything you’ll need to know to prepare for your photoshoot. It covers how to plan your getting-ready time, choose outfits that best suit your style, choose appropriate shoes, and how to mentally prepare for something like a senior photoshoot to get best results (and maybe even have FUN in the process?!)
